Cloud County Community College recently held meetings with faculty and staff to address state budget cuts of over $140,000 in fiscal year 2009 and approximately $328,000 in fiscal year 2010.
The Kansas Board of Regents recently informed colleges across the state to expect a 3 percent cut in state aid this year and a 7 percent cut for next year. What this means for CCCC is a $140,000 cut in 2009 and $328,000 in 2010. The college prepared for a 2 percent cut for 2009 with one time savings from this year's budget, but will need to find ways to cover the additional 1 percent this year and the full 7 percent in 2010.
CCCC President, Dr. Richard Underbakke, has begun a series of meetings with faculty and staff to gather ideas on how the college can save money to meet these cuts. He has asked for all college employees for input on how to generate income and increase enrollment.
Dr. Underbakke stated that these cuts are permanent, but we need to consider the students and what will have the least minimal impact on them.
